Description

Ringers is a 1,000-piece long-form generative art series by Canadian artist Dmitri Cherniak, released on Art Blocks Curated in January 2021. It starts from one simple question: how many ways can a string wrap around a set of pegs? Each output is derived from a unique transaction hash and rendered in JavaScript in the browser, with variations in peg count, scale, layout, wrapping direction, and color. Inspired by Armin Hofmann's 1965 form studies, the series made automation visible as a creative medium and became a blue-chip of on-chain art: Ringers #879 'The Goose' sold at Sotheby's for $6.2M, and works are held by ZKM Karlsruhe and LACMA.
